Authorities cleared a suspicious object outside the Colorado State Capitol on Wednesday, October 28, and lifted an evacuation and nearby street closures before noon. The Denver Police Department Bomb Squad determined the object was not a threat to the public, and Colorado State Patrol said there was no ongoing hazard.
CSP responded at about 10:34 a.m. after the object was found on a windowsill outside the Capitolโs east side. The building was evacuated at 11:12 a.m., and Lincoln Street and 14th Avenue were closed. The bomb squad arrived at about 11:14 a.m.; the evacuation order was lifted at 11:49 a.m., 37 minutes after it began. Reports said the streets reopened. Colorado Politics reported, attributing the detail to CSP, that an X-ray found inert contents.
CSP reported arresting a 32-year-old man at about 11:30 a.m. and transferring him to Denver Police custody. Colorado Politics reported the arrest at 11:29 a.m.; Colorado Newsline placed it at approximately 11:30 a.m. CSP said it was investigating.
