Denver Gas Prices Jump Again as Diesel Reaches $5.17

Denver metro regular gasoline averaged $4.144 per gallon in AAA’s July 31, 2026, price check, up 12.3 cents from the previous AAA check. Diesel climbed separately to $5.170 per gallon, a 12-cent increase.

Those are Denver metro averages, not the price at every station. Pump prices can vary by neighborhood, fuel brand, payment method and station location.

Regular gas is up 2.7 cents from a week ago

AAA listed Denver regular gasoline at $4.021 in the previous check and $4.117 a week earlier. The latest average is therefore 2.7 cents higher than the week-ago figure.

The longer comparisons are larger. Regular gasoline is up 47.3 cents from the month-ago average of $3.671 and $1.194 from the year-ago average of $2.950.

For commuters and households with gasoline-powered vehicles, the increase shows up at each fill-up. At the Denver metro averages, 15 gallons would cost about $1.85 more than in the previous AAA check, before station-level differences are considered.

Diesel is rising faster over the past week

Diesel rose from $5.050 in the previous AAA check to $5.170. It was $4.968 a week earlier, making the latest average 20.2 cents higher than the week-ago price.

Diesel’s longer-term increase is also steeper than regular gasoline’s. The Denver average is 87.1 cents above the month-ago price of $4.299 and $1.710 above the year-ago price of $3.460.

That creates a separate cost pressure for delivery operators, freight businesses, contractors, landscapers, maintenance crews and other operators using diesel trucks or equipment. Restaurants and service companies may also face higher operating costs when deliveries, field visits or supply runs require more fuel.

EIA offers a different Denver snapshot

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Denver regular gasoline at $4.033 per gallon for the week ending July 27, 2026. That figure provides independent context, but it is not a same-day replacement for AAA’s July 31 metro average. EIA publishes a weekly series, while AAA provides a more frequent metro snapshot.

The Denver Gazette reported on July 24 that Denver-area gasoline had moved back above $4 per gallon, citing a GasBuddy survey of 844 stations. That earlier report helps show the local trend, while the current AAA figures provide the latest Denver metro averages.

What Denver drivers and businesses should watch

Regular gasoline is at $4.144 per gallon on the latest Denver metro average, while diesel remains above $5. Weekend travelers and daily commuters may feel the gasoline increase directly. Businesses that move people, goods or equipment may have to account for higher fuel costs in route planning, delivery charges, service pricing or operating budgets.
