Northbound I-5 in Seattle is scheduled to close from I-90 to NE 45th Street at 11:59 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, while crews remove the Ship Canal Bridge work zone and restripe the road. Adjacent ramps and lanes may begin closing at 9 p.m. Friday.
If dry conditions allow the work to proceed, northbound traffic across the bridge is scheduled to return to four lanes from two. That would end the long-term restriction nearly two months ahead of WSDOT’s July plan, which said two lanes would remain through the end of 2026. The express lanes are scheduled to stay northbound-only during the work and return to normal operations at 5 a.m. Monday.
King County Metro plans to add up to 12 buses on key routes during full-closure weekends, deploying them flexibly where staff observe crowding or delays.
Removing the work zone would end the long-term northbound restriction, not all Revive I-5 work: overnight maintenance and drainage work will continue, and southbound lane closures are planned for 2027. A separate southbound I-405 closure is scheduled from SR 527 to SR 522 in Bothell, from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. WSDOT says the I-5 schedule depends on dry weather; travelers should check its updates before setting out.
