Nebraskaโs proposed school sports constitutional amendment, Initiative 442, held a substantial lead in unofficial Secretary of State returns Wednesday. The measure had 488,432 votes for and 229,868 against, about 68% to 32% of votes cast on the question, with 1,309 of 1,322 precincts fully reported and 12 partially reported.
The official ballot text says the amendment would require covered schools to designate athletic teams by biological sex or as coed, and would bar students classified as male under the measure from teams designated for females. It applies to public schools and postsecondary institutions, plus private institutions competing against them. The figures remain an unofficial count; this report does not treat the lead as a race call.
