Lincoln Council Sets Aug. 12 Vote on 2026-28 Budget Changes

Lincoln City Council is scheduled to review proposed final changes to Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird’s recommended 2026-28 city budget on Aug. 10, giving council members a final public discussion before a scheduled vote on the amendments Aug. 12.

The recommended two-year budget calls for approximately $317 million in spending during its first fiscal year and $334 million during its second. The council’s review could affect spending priorities tied to public safety, neighborhood investments and aging swimming pools.

Earlier council proposals totaled about $1.5 million. Those proposals included $150,000 for security improvements at the Lincoln Police Department’s Northeast station, along with changes involving pools, neighborhoods and public safety. The proposals were not final approvals, and the city had not yet announced the total value of the final amendment package.

Under the city’s budget calendar, final changes were due for publication and distribution by 3 p.m. Aug. 7. After the scheduled Aug. 12 amendment vote, the council is scheduled to consider adoption of the full FY2026-28 budget on Aug. 24. The final budget and any related tax effects will depend on actions taken during that process.
