Gowanda Gas & Diesel Watch: Regular gas dips, diesel edges up in Buffalo-Niagara Falls (AAA 6/23/26)

The latest AAA fuel-price check for the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metro—the closest consistent proxy for Gowanda—was posted June 23, 2026. Regular unleaded averaged $4.3380 per gallon, down from $4.3530 yesterday. Diesel averaged $5.7360 per gallon, up from $5.7290 yesterday.

It’s a small, but important split for local budgets: regular gas eased versus the day before, while diesel ticked up. Over the bigger “last week” and “last month” windows, both regular gas and diesel are lower in the metro average. Even with that easing, both fuels remain far above year-ago levels, so households and businesses still have to plan around high baseline prices.

So what it means for Gowanda-area drivers and businesses i

For everyday commuting and errands, the regular gas change is mostly about whether your next fill-up costs a few cents more or less than the day before. For diesel users, the day-to-day direction can matter more: contractors, delivery drivers, service trucks, and any fleet-heavy local businesses often feel diesel moves first because they fuel more frequently and because diesel tends to track different price pressures than regular gas.

If you’re budgeting for the week—whether you’re driving to work, hauling supplies, or running deliveries—today’s split direction is a reminder that diesel and regular gas don’t always move together.

A quick national read, without losing the local focus i

EIA’s Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update (release date June 23, 2026) shows U.S. retail gasoline and on-highway diesel were lower than the week before. That aligns with what the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metro average is showing over the weekly window—while still leaving room for local day-to-day differences.

Why the metro average is the Gowanda proxy i

Gowanda sits in two counties: the village is divided at the Cattaraugus Creek, according to the Village of Gowanda Police Department. Because of that, a metro-level yardstick can be more consistent than trying to force a single county-only number onto the whole village.
