Roselle Park-Area Gas Prices Ease, Diesel Reaches $5.52
Regular gasoline and diesel are moving in opposite directions for Roselle Park-area drivers. The latest AAA New Jersey fuel-price table listed the Newark-metro average on Tuesday, July 28, at $4.207 per gallon for regular gas, down 1.1 cents from the previous day. Diesel reached $5.522 per gallon, up 3.0 cents from Monday.
These are Newark-metro averages relevant to Roselle Park, not pump prices from a specific station in the borough. Individual stations can be higher or lower depending on location, competition, brand, payment method and timing.
Regular gas is cheaper than Monday but higher over longer periods
AAA listed the Newark-metro regular-gas average at $4.207 per gallon on July 28, compared with $4.218 the day before.
That small daily decline has not erased the broader increase. The average was 8.0 cents higher than a week earlier, 25.3 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.126 higher than a year earlier, when AAA listed the Newark-metro average at $3.081.
For commuters, a slightly lower price than Monday may not translate into meaningful relief for a household filling up once or twice a week. Drivers planning weekend trips should compare stations before leaving, especially because a metro average does not show the spread between individual locations.
Diesel continues to rise across every comparison
Diesel is showing the sharper upward trend. AAA’s Newark-metro average reached $5.522 per gallon, placing it above the $5.50 mark and 3.0 cents above Monday’s $5.492 average.
Compared with the same AAA price table, diesel was up 14.8 cents from a week earlier, 44.1 cents from a month earlier and $1.808 from a year earlier, when the Newark-metro average was $3.714.
That matters beyond drivers of diesel-powered passenger vehicles. Contractors, landscapers, delivery operators, repair companies, restaurants and other service businesses may use commercial vehicles or rely on freight and fuel-intensive equipment. Higher diesel costs can put pressure on operating budgets, though the price table alone does not show whether any particular Roselle Park business has changed its prices or practices.
What Roselle Park drivers should watch
Roselle Park is in Union County, New Jersey, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Newark Metro profile includes Union County in the Newark metropolitan area. The profile also identifies transportation and warehousing as a key industry in the region, making diesel an important cost for commercial travel and deliveries.
For households, the practical steps are straightforward: check several nearby stations, compare posted prices with any card or cash discounts, and avoid assuming that the metro average is the price at the closest pump. Businesses that depend on vans, trucks or regular deliveries may want to monitor diesel separately from regular gasoline because the two fuels are currently moving differently.
