Crawford County OKs FY 2026–27; Unanimous Denison Abatement for 1945 Deloit Blvd
Denison IA – Crawford County Board approved FY 2026–27 appropriations and a Secondary Road Fund transfer, plus a unanimous tax abatement for 1945 Deloit Blvd.
The Crawford County Board of Supervisors approved its FY 2026–27 appropriations at its meeting Tuesday, July 7, 2026, and also authorized an interfund operating transfer to the Secondary Road Fund. The same meeting included unanimous approval of a property-tax abatement for a Denison-area home at 1945 Deloit Blvd.
FY 2026–27 appropriations approved by resolution
In action taken at the July 7 meeting, the Board approved Resolution 2026-28, which sets appropriations per department for FY 2026–2027. In plain terms, the resolution authorizes county departments to spend within the amounts itemized for the coming fiscal year, effective July 1, 2026.
For residents, the practical link is that county budget decisions shape what services operate during FY 2026–27—especially in departments that rely on steady funding throughout the year.
Secondary Road Fund transfer: capped by current tax apportionments
The Board also approved Resolution 2026-29, authorizing periodic interfund operating transfers to the Secondary Road Fund during the 2026–2027 budget year.
Key details from the resolution:
- Transfer limits: the transfer from the General Basic Fund is capped at $228,215, based on $0.16875 per $1,000 of taxable value; the transfer from the Rural Services Basic Fund is capped at $2,805,816, based on $3.00375 per $1,000 levy.
- When the auditor moves the money: within 10 days after the Auditor is notified of apportionment of current property taxes (and certain state replacements) to the General Basic or Rural Services Basic Funds, the Auditor must order the transfer to the Secondary Road Fund.
Bottom line: the county’s road-funding transfer is tied to how current property taxes are apportioned and levied, using the limits described in the resolution.
Unanimous tax abatement: 1945 Deloit Blvd (Evan and Samantha Zeiman)
Separately from the FY 2026–27 appropriations and Secondary Roads transfer, the Board approved—unanimously—a property-tax abatement for 1945 Deloit Blvd for Evan and Samantha Zeiman, identified in the minutes as a new home.
The Iowa Department of Education’s Denison Community School District boundary map shows Deloit Blvd within the district boundary, which supports describing this as a Denison-area abatement.
As always, the abatement changes the property’s tax outcome, but residents will be able to see the exact dollar result once the official tax statement is issued for the abated property.
What to watch next
- For taxpayers with local property in Crawford County: review your property tax statement once issued—especially if you’re associated with an abatement or other change reported in county actions.
- For residents who care about road service levels: watch for how FY 2026–27 budget implementation and Secondary Roads transfers play out across the county throughout the year.
