Denver gas and diesel prices slip again, but remain far above last year
Denver gas and diesel both eased again on June 3, and AAA says the metro remains below Colorado and U.S. averages even as prices run higher than last year.
Denver drivers saw another small step down in AAA’s latest metro fuel check. Regular gasoline averaged $4.186 a gallon in Denver on June 3, while diesel averaged $5.041. Both prices were down 1.8 cents from the day before, a modest move that still adds up for anyone filling up often.
The bigger trend is still lower over the past week and month, but not over the past year. Regular gas is down from $4.567 a week ago and $4.446 a month ago, while diesel is down from $5.367 a week ago and $5.517 a month ago. Year over year, regular gas is still up from $3.050, and diesel is up from $3.222.
Denver is still below Colorado and national averages
Denver’s regular average is below Colorado’s $4.285 and below the U.S. average of $4.261. Diesel tells the same story: Denver’s $5.041 is below Colorado’s $5.162 and below the U.S. average of $5.411. That means the metro is still a little better than the broader benchmarks, even if the price signs do not feel especially friendly.
For commuters, the lower regular-gas average can trim a weekly fill-up by a few dollars. For households, the savings are real but limited. Contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, and other businesses that burn diesel or pile on miles may feel the diesel price more sharply because fuel is part of day-to-day operating cost. Weekend travelers heading out in larger vehicles or with trailers may notice the bill climb faster than a solo commuter does.
AAA’s latest check suggests short-term relief is still in place, but the year-over-year comparison remains the harder one for budgets. If you are seeing especially high or low prices around Denver, share the highest and lowest pump prices you spot locally.
