St. Louis Park approves MnDOT grant for Cedar Lake Rd/Louisiana Ave: detours & closures
St. Louis Park City Council approved a MnDOT grant for Cedar Lake Rd/Louisiana Ave (Phase 2). Here’s what to expect for July 6 detours.
St. Louis Park residents and anyone commuting through Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue are facing a layered construction plan this month. City Council approved a MnDOT grant agreement for the project on July 6, and the city’s engineering team has already laid out early-July traffic restrictions and MnDOT-related closures starting Monday, July 6.
What City Council approved on July 6
In its July 6 City Council agenda packet, St. Louis Park included a consent-item resolution approving a MnDOT Local Road Improvement Fund grant agreement tied to the Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue Improvements project (Phase 2), identified as project number 4024-1100.
First change for drivers: through-traffic restrictions in the corridor
In Construction Update #13 (issued July 1, 2026), the city spells out the early-July change: parts of the Cedar Lake/Louisiana corridor are closed to through traffic, while the city says street access to businesses is maintained.
Specifically, the update lists:
- Cedar Lake Road (Rhode Island Avenue to Kentucky Avenue): closed to through traffic
- Louisiana Avenue (Fire Station to Railroad Bridge): closed to through traffic
The city notes that through traffic should use the posted detour. Since access points and routes can change as work progresses, the city’s guidance emphasizes relying on current signage and posted detour instructions.
More impacts starting Monday, July 6: Wayzata Blvd and a Highway 169 ramp closure
Construction Update #13 also flags MnDOT-related closures beginning Monday, July 6.
- Wayzata Boulevard frontage road closure: MnDOT will close Wayzata Boulevard between Hampshire Avenue and Colorado Avenue to through traffic.
- Highway 169 ramp closure: MnDOT closed the ramp from Highway 169 Northbound to Cedar Lake Road/Jordan Avenue. The city says this closure is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026, and that it will modify the posted detour.
Where to check the latest route guidance
The city maintains a dedicated project page for Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue improvements, including a Latest updates section. That’s the best place to confirm the current access notes and detour approach as closures and work phases evolve.
For metro-level context on the Highway 169 area work, MnDOT also maintains a project page for Cedar Lake Rd & Jordan Ave.
