Fatal shooting at Studio City park-and-ride raises safety concerns
LAPD says a 40-year-old man was killed May 31 near the Universal/Studio City Park and Ride on Ventura Boulevard, and detectives are seeking witnesses.
A fatal shooting near the Universal/Studio City Station Park and Ride on Ventura Boulevard has put a familiar Studio City commuter stop under an uncomfortable spotlight. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the shooting happened on Sunday, May 31, 2026, and the victim, a 40-year-old man, died at the scene.
LAPD’s homicide bulletin, issued June 1, says officers responded around 11:19 a.m. to the 10800 block of Ventura Boulevard. When they arrived, they found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rendered aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is still active.
That location matters because Metro lists the Universal City/Studio City facility as a commuter parking site, with 550 paid spaces in the north lot and 80 free spaces along Ventura Boulevard. For riders, workers and drivers who use the corridor, the shooting happened at a place built around daily travel, not a quiet side street.
For nearby residents and businesses, the impact is immediate even before investigators identify a suspect or motive. A homicide at a park-and-ride can change how people think about walking to their cars, waiting nearby or using the lot during the commute.
What remains unknown is just as important. LAPD has not announced an arrest, and the bulletin does not give a motive. Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division’s Valley Bureau Section are canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance video and witnesses.
For now, the key facts are straightforward: a man was killed on May 31 at the Universal/Studio City Station Park and Ride area, the investigation is ongoing, and police are still asking for help from anyone who was in the area.
