Studio City Riverwalk proposal remains under neighborhood review as affordable housing construction begins nearby

A proposed mixed-use development along the Los Angeles River remains under neighborhood review in Studio City, with project materials describing 814 apartments, about 76,000 square feet of commercial space and more than 1,800 subterranean parking spaces.

The Riverwalk plan calls for structures ranging from two to seven stories. If ultimately approved and built, the project could affect housing supply, commercial activity, traffic and parking demand along the river corridor.

Neighborhood meetings continue

The Studio City Neighborhood Council listed a Riverwalk Development Ad Hoc Committee meeting for July 27, 2026. The council also listed a Public Safety and Homelessness Committee meeting for July 30.

The meeting schedule keeps the project in the neighborhood’s public discussion as residents and local officials consider its potential effects on the surrounding area. The available meeting listings establish that the committees were scheduled to address Riverwalk-related matters, but do not by themselves establish a final development decision.

The Riverwalk materials describe a proposal, not a completed project. They do not establish that the development has received final approval from the Los Angeles City Council or the city’s planning authorities.

Affordable housing projects move on separate track

Construction began in July 2026 on a separate 86-unit apartment project in Studio City. All 86 apartments are described as affordable.

A separate proposal for 78 affordable apartments was also filed near the Los Angeles River in Studio City. The relationship, if any, between that proposal, the 86-unit project under construction and the larger Riverwalk plan has not been established.

Those projects add another housing dimension to the neighborhood discussion. The Riverwalk proposal would combine a large apartment component with commercial space, while the nearby project under construction is fully affordable. Together, the developments are part of a period of housing activity near the river, but they should not be treated as a single project.

What comes next

The next publicly listed Riverwalk-related steps were the Neighborhood Council committee meetings in late July. No final entitlement decision or current construction schedule for Riverwalk has been established.
