Redmond noise code update targets gun ranges, cranes and loading
Redmond’s July 7 committee review would update the city’s noise code, including construction posting, loading rules, gun ranges and tower cranes. ([redmond.legistar.com](https://redmond.legistar.com/LegislationDetail.aspx?GUID=997E2667-9E17-41FD-904F-F7145B61DC74&ID=8125315&Options=&Search=))
Redmond‘s noise code update is headed to the July 7 Committee of the Whole – Planning and Public Works, but it is still a proposal, not a final rule. City file CM 26-388 is listed as agenda-ready for that meeting, and the staff report says the goal is to amend RMC 6.36 Noise Standards for clarity, enforcement and alignment with state law.
The update would touch a few familiar flashpoints: posting construction noise hours at job sites, loading operations, gun ranges and the assembly and dismantling of tower cranes. Staff also says the package would remove duplicative items, update obsolete zoning names and reorganize exemptions, with companion changes to enforcement and loading rules.
For residents, the practical question is whether complaints become easier to understand and enforce. For contractors and businesses, the biggest change could be clearer notice and posting requirements, plus a more explicit rulebook for special cases like tower cranes and range noise. Redmond last made a major noise update in 1998, according to the staff report.
What happens next is straightforward: the committee can advance, revise or hold the proposal on July 7. If council later adopts it, Redmond would have a newer noise code built around how the city now handles construction, industrial activity and neighborhood complaints.
