Airport Delays, Flood Warnings and Jazz Fest Food News Lead Local Headlines
New Orleans, LA – March 8, 2026 – Travelers face long TSA lines, flash flood warnings hit the region, and Jazz Fest spotlights nearly 60 local food vendors.
Long Lines at Armstrong Airport
Passengers flying out of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on Sunday encountered lengthy TSA security lines that stretched deep into the terminal and, at times, toward parking areas. Airport officials pointed to staffing shortages tied to the ongoing federal government shutdown as a major factor behind the delays.
Travelers were urged to arrive earlier than usual and check flight statuses before heading to the airport. With spring break season approaching, officials say they are working to manage wait times, but crowding could continue in the days ahead.
Flash Flood Warning Issued Saturday Night
Heavy storms moved through parts of southeast Louisiana Saturday evening, prompting the National Weather Service office in New Orleans to issue a flash flood warning. Radar indicated intense rainfall, with several inches possible in a short period of time.
The warning highlighted the risk of flooding on streets, underpasses and low-lying areas. While the most severe impacts were reported west of the city, forecasters cautioned that sudden downpours can quickly overwhelm drainage systems across the metro area.
Jazz Fest to Feature Nearly 60 Local Food Vendors
Looking ahead to festival season, organizers for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival announced that nearly 60 local food vendors will set up at the Fair Grounds this spring.
Beyond the music lineup, the festival continues to spotlight regional staples such as crawfish dishes, red beans and rice, and other Creole and Cajun favorites. The annual event, scheduled for late April and early May, remains one of the city’s largest cultural draws and a major boost for neighborhood restaurants and culinary institutions.
