The Akron Zips men’s basketball team achieved their 28th consecutive home win by defeating Kent State 69-52 on Friday night. This victory marks the eighth straight win for the Zips, who now hold an 18-4 record and lead the Mid-American Conference with a 9-1 record.
Strong Defensive Performance
Akron’s defense was particularly effective, limiting Kent State to just 28.4% shooting from the field and a mere 4.3% from beyond the arc, with the Golden Flashes making only one of 23 three-point attempts.

Tavari Johnson led the Zips with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Bowen Hardman contributed 15 points off the bench, including five three-pointers. Eric Mahaffey, Evan Mahaffey, and Shammah Scott each added nine points to the team’s total.
