Police update officer-involved shooting

Albertville police released new details Friday about an officer-involved shooting earlier this week on Bobwhite Drive in Marshall County. Officers were called on February 3 to a reported fight involving a gun at a home in the neighborhood.

When they arrived, officers found a man who said he had been assaulted by his brother. Investigators say the suspect, identified as Nicolas Pascual Gaspar, fired toward both the victim and officers before police returned fire and moved the victim to safety. A perimeter was set up, the Marshall County Joint Special Response Team responded, and after about a two-hour standoff Gaspar surrendered and was taken into custody.

Police report that Gaspar was treated for a gunshot wound at a Huntsville hospital, then booked into the Albertville City Jail and later moved to the Marshall County Jail. He is charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of illegal possession of a firearm, with bond set at one million dollars and a federal immigration detainer also in place.

This weekend’s calendar includes a Cherrydale fundraiser, junior varsity girls playing in the Golden Goal soccer tournament at Sand Mountain Park, varsity boys soccer at the Lakeshore Shootout in Calera, and Aggie wrestlers competing in sectionals at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.
