Anderson Avenue closure enters its final scheduled week before Manhattan schools reopen
Anderson Avenue is entering its final scheduled week of a through-traffic closure in Manhattan as paving work continues ahead of the Aug. 11 school start.
The City of Manhattan says the closure will run through Sunday, Aug. 9, between Connecticut Avenue and Canfield Drive. Aug. 9 is the scheduled end date; the road should not be treated as reopened until the city confirms that change.
What is closed
No through traffic is allowed on Anderson Avenue between Connecticut Avenue and Canfield Drive. The restriction began Monday, July 27, as part of the Anderson Avenue Water, Street, and Stormwater improvement project.
The posted detour is Claflin Road. The city also tells drivers to use extreme caution in the construction zone.
Where crews are paving
The city identifies the current work as Phase 2a paving in the eastbound lanes between Timberlane Drive/College Heights Road and Oakdale Drive.
That paving area is within the broader Anderson Avenue closure. Drivers should avoid through travel on Anderson Avenue between the two closure limits during the scheduled closure period.
Why Aug. 11 matters
The city says Anderson Avenue will reopen before school starts Aug. 11. Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 lists Tuesday, Aug. 11, as the first day for kindergarten through ninth-grade students and new Manhattan High School students. The district lists that day as a half-day.
USD 383’s posted half-day schedules are 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for elementary schools, 8:40 a.m. to noon for middle schools and 8 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. for high school.
The district says its 2026-27 calendar is pending negotiations approval. Aug. 11 is the start date currently shown on the district’s academic-calendar page.
What drivers should plan for
- Avoid through travel on Anderson Avenue between Connecticut Avenue and Canfield Drive through the scheduled Aug. 9 closure.
- Use Claflin Road as the posted detour.
- Drive with extreme caution near the paving and other construction activity.
- Look for a later city update confirming reopening rather than treating Aug. 9 as proof that the road is already open.
As of Monday, Aug. 3, the closure remains within its final scheduled week. The city’s stated goal is to reopen Anderson Avenue before the Aug. 11 USD 383 school start, but that reopening remains a scheduled target until confirmed.
