Atlanta riders get new MARTA tools as World Cup service starts June 11
MARTA’s new app and web rider tools went live June 9, and World Cup service begins June 11 ahead of Atlanta’s first match on June 15 for riders.
Atlanta riders have two transit changes to watch at once: MARTA’s redesigned app and web rider tools are live, and the agency’s World Cup service plan starts Thursday, June 11.
The timing matters because Atlanta’s first World Cup match is Monday, June 15, at noon. That will put extra pressure on downtown travel before kickoff, especially around the stadium and the rail stations MARTA says riders should expect to use most.
What riders can use right now
MARTA says the new app and web tools went live June 9. Riders can use them to plan trips, check real-time arrivals, monitor system status, and review service alerts before they leave home.
The app also folds in incident reporting, so riders can send safety concerns through the same platform. MARTA says the tools were designed to be easier to use for riders with accessibility needs and for people who prefer non-English languages.
Language support includes Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Korean, French, and Arabic. The web tools are also available on MARTA’s website, so riders do not have to download the app to check trips and arrivals.
What changes on June 11
MARTA’s World Cup service plan begins June 11 and is built for higher demand on match days and fan-fest days. The agency says rail service will run at five-minute headways during those peak periods.
MARTA also says it will stage at least 30 buses as a rapid-response fleet, with vans positioned at five strategic stations, and use specialized shuttle trains to move crowds after events. Transit Ambassadors will be on duty for up to 12 hours a day to help with wayfinding and crowd management.
For downtown riders, MARTA says the key stations are SEC District, Vine City, Five Points, Peachtree Center and Garnett. Those are the stops the agency says are most likely to matter first for match-day access and crowd flow near the stadium and entertainment district.
MARTA says its Emergency Operations Center will activate June 11 as well, with police and operations staff monitoring service through match days and fan-fest periods.
What to do before the crowds build
For Atlanta residents, workers and commuters, the practical move is simple: update the MARTA app or use the web tools, check alerts before leaving, and plan extra time if a trip crosses downtown on June 15 or later.
If a route normally passes through Five Points, Peachtree Center, Vine City, Garnett or SEC District, those are the stations worth watching first. The City of Atlanta’s Navigate Atlanta hub is another place to check for traffic and parking information.
