Auburn Station road closure begins Aug. 3 for garage construction
A Street NW between 1st Street NW and 2nd Street NW in downtown Auburn is scheduled to close each day beginning Monday, August 3, while Sound Transit continues construction on the Auburn Station parking garage.
The planned closure is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is expected to continue through October 30, 2026. Sound Transit said sidewalks in the work area will also be closed, and street parking on the affected block will not be available during the scheduled closure period.
What the closure means for Auburn travelers
Drivers should expect changed access near Auburn Station during daytime construction hours. The current notice identifies the closed block but does not specify a particular detour route, so people traveling in the area should allow extra time and follow posted signs or on-site instructions.
Pedestrians should plan for changed access because sidewalks in the work area will be closed. Transit riders and people meeting or dropping off passengers at Auburn Station may want to check current project information before traveling, particularly if they normally use A Street NW or nearby street parking.
Nearby businesses may see changes in vehicle and pedestrian access during work hours. The closure is scheduled for daytime hours; the notice does not establish additional overnight, weekend or full-time restrictions.
Part of a larger Auburn Station project
The road work is connected to Sound Transit’s Auburn Station Parking and Access Improvements project. The broader effort is intended to improve access for people who walk, bicycle, connect to buses or drive to the Sounder station.
Sound Transit’s project overview says a new parking garage is being built near 1st Street Northwest and that the overall project is expected to be completed in 2027. Earlier project materials also describe planned city street, sidewalk, lighting and storm-drain improvements, although construction plans and schedules can change.
What to check before traveling
People heading to Auburn Station should review the latest Sound Transit project updates and the City of Auburn’s transportation and traffic information before leaving. Those updates are the best place to look for schedule changes, posted access instructions or any additional restrictions.
For now, the key dates are the scheduled start on August 3 and the scheduled end on October 30. Neither date guarantees that construction will begin or finish exactly on schedule, so travelers should watch for updated notices as the work progresses.
