Augusta-Aiken Gas Rises 2.2 Cents as Diesel Jumps 7.8 Cents

Regular gasoline and diesel both moved higher in the latest Augusta-Aiken price check, but diesel posted the sharper increase. Regular gas rises from yesterday but remains below last week

Regular gasoline is 7.6 cents below the average recorded one week earlier, even after the latest daily increase. Compared with the same period last year, however, regular gas is up 87.9 cents per gallon.

That split matters for Augusta-area drivers. A household filling a gasoline-powered vehicle is paying more than a year ago, while the week-to-week comparison is somewhat less costly than it was seven days earlier. Commuters and weekend travelers may still want to compare nearby stations before filling up because the metro average does not show the full spread between individual locations.

Diesel makes the bigger move

Diesel’s increase was more pronounced. The average climbed from $5.228 on July 30 to $5.306 on July 31, keeping it above $5.30 per gallon and 6.6 cents higher than a week ago. Diesel is also $1.791 more expensive than it was a year earlier.

The higher diesel average has practical implications for delivery operators, contractors, farmers, service businesses and other commercial users that rely on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Restaurants and retailers can also face indirect exposure when transportation and delivery costs rise, although the available price data does not establish that local businesses have already changed prices or operations because of this move.

What the metro average does—and does not—show

AAA’s figures track the direction of fuel prices across the Augusta-Aiken market, while the U.S. Energy Information Administration provides broader gasoline and diesel market context. Neither source means every Augusta station changed by the same amount on July 31.
