Aurora street-racing crash case moves forward

Aurora police say a second suspect has now been charged in connection with a deadly street-racing rollover that happened in November 2025 near East Alameda Parkway and South Chambers Road. Investigators allege the teen was driving one of two vehicles involved in a high-speed race that ended when the other car lost control, rolled and killed a 20-year-old passenger while injuring two others.

The new charges include vehicular homicide, reckless driving and engaging in a speed contest. The suspect is being held on bond in Arapahoe County. Police are again urging families to talk with young drivers about the risks of racing and high-speed driving on city streets, stressing that the crash was entirely preventable.

Two hurt in separate crash on East 16th Avenue

Emergency crews responded over the weekend to a reported injury crash along East 16th Avenue in Aurora. Firefighters, medics and police arrived after 11 a.m. and found two people hurt at the scene.

Both patients were transported to local hospitals, one in more serious but stable condition and the other with less severe injuries. Details on the cause of the collision have not yet been released, but the incident is another reminder of how quickly routine travel can turn into an emergency.

City asks residents to help rank infrastructure priorities

The city is inviting residents to weigh in on which streets, sidewalks, parks and other infrastructure projects should rise to the top through a “Build Up Aurora” ranking effort this month. A series of public feedback sessions will give neighbors a chance to review proposed projects and help shape a priority list that will guide future investments.

City leaders say the input will influence how limited dollars are spent across transportation, public safety facilities, utilities and community amenities. Residents who can’t attend in person will have additional options to share opinions online.

Weather: Warm, dry and fire-aware

After an unusually warm stretch across the metro, Aurora remains dry with mild daytime highs and relatively light winds. A recent fire weather watch highlights the ongoing concern about low humidity and gusty conditions around the region, even as mountain areas see more active winter storms.

Residents are encouraged to avoid outdoor burning, secure anything that could spark a grass fire and stay tuned to local forecasts if winds increase.
