Geomagnetic Storm Could Bring Northern Lights to Colorado
A G2-level geomagnetic storm watch remains in effect through March 20 after several solar eruptions earlier this week. Federal forecasters say activity could persist for up to 48 hours, raising the possibility of northern lights visibility farther south than usual.
While Aurora sits well outside the typical aurora borealis zone, strong solar conditions have pushed displays into Colorado before. Clear skies and darker areas away from city lights would offer the best chance for viewing late tonight.
Major Storm System Winds Down After Regional Impacts
A powerful storm system that affected large parts of the country officially dissipated on March 19. Earlier in the week, the system evolved into a Colorado low as it moved east from the Rockies, contributing to changing conditions across the Front Range.
Though Aurora avoided the brunt of the blizzard conditions seen in other states, shifting winds and fluctuating temperatures were part of the broader weather pattern. Forecasters say calmer conditions are returning heading into the weekend.
City Council Meeting Set for March 23
Aurora City Council is scheduled to meet Monday, March 23, according to the city’s 2026 calendar. No meeting was held this week, but council members are expected to resume regular business at the upcoming session.
Residents can review agendas and watch meetings live or on demand through the city’s official channels. As spring break continues for local districts, city offices remain open during regular business hours.
