1) Domestic violence investigation leads to attempted-murder charges
Police say a 29-year-old Bakersfield man, Brandon Grimaldo, was arrested after his girlfriend, 23-year-old Crystal Marie Falcon, died from injuries investigators say were consistent with physical abuse. Authorities were called to Adventist Health Bakersfield on Feb. 7, and Falcon died on Feb. 13. Court documents cited in reports describe multiple serious injuries. Grimaldo was charged with attempted and premeditated murder and other counts, and the case is moving through court.
2) Fatal Kernville motorcycle crash: victim identified
The Kern County Coroner identified 25-year-old Bakersfield resident Nadeem Samaan as the man who died after a single-motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon in Kernville, according to reports based on CHP information. Investigators said the rider went off the road near Sierra Way and Cyrus Canyon Road and was taken to a hospital, where he later died. The crash remains under investigation.
3) Kern Raceway set for ARCA West season opener
Auto-racing fans have a major date circled: the ARCA Menards Series West opens its 2026 season Saturday, Feb. 28, at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway in Bakersfield. The race is scheduled for 150 laps, with defending champ Trevor Huddleston among the drivers expected in the field, plus several returning and debut competitors.
