Inspector general flags mayor’s office P-card spending
A newly released inspector general report says hundreds of purchases made with city procurement cards did not go through the required waiver or approval process. The review covered transactions from mid-2022 through late 2025 and found $167,455 in spending that was out of compliance, with many purchases tied to food, office events, and other items that typically require advance authorization. The report recommends tighter oversight and more capacity to review card activity and enforce rules consistently across city government.
Homicide detectives investigating Wednesday night shootings
Police said detectives are investigating multiple shootings from Wednesday evening, including a case in the 3500 block of 5th Street where a victim later died at the hospital, and a separate incident in the 4900 block of Reisterstown Road where two victims were found with gunshot wounds and both later died. Detectives asked anyone with information to contact investigators or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
State investigators review fatal police-involved shooting
Maryland’s independent investigators said they are reviewing a fatal police-involved shooting connected to an encounter on Belair Road. In a preliminary account, officials said officers followed a man after seeing him leave a store, and shots were fired after the man displayed a handgun while running. The investigation is ongoing, with officials expected to review body-worn camera footage, forensic evidence, and witness interviews as part of the standard process.
Three-alarm fire injures two in South Clifton Park
Fire officials said a commercial building fire in the 2000 block of N. Rose Street escalated to three alarms Thursday morning. A civilian was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and a firefighter was transported with non-serious injuries. The cause remains under investigation.
