Baton Rouge planning commission agenda puts Florida Boulevard rezoning and Pettit Road mining proposal before residents
An amended agenda for Baton Rouge’s Planning and Zoning Commission places several land-use proposals before the commission on Monday, Aug. 17, including requests to change the comprehensive-plan designation and zoning for property at 17060 Florida Boulevard.
The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Baton Rouge City Hall, 222 St. Louis St., Room 348. The city-parish agenda archive shows the agenda was amended July 27, 2026.
Florida Boulevard proposal
The Florida Boulevard case involves two related requests for property on the south side of Florida Boulevard, east of South Stevendale Road.
One request would amend the Comprehensive Land Use Plan designation from Residential Neighborhood and Commercial to Commercial. A related rezoning request would change the property’s zoning from Rural to Light Commercial Two, or LC2.
Both matters appear under the agenda’s regular-agenda heading for items requiring Metropolitan Council approval. They are proposals before the commission, not final approvals.
Other council-approval cases
The commission also is scheduled to consider a rezoning request for 3680 and 3696 Dalton Street. The proposal would change the property from Single Family Residential, or A2, to Neighborhood Commercial, or NC.
At 7122 Florida Boulevard, another request would change the zoning from Heavy Commercial, or C2, to Commercial Alcoholic Beverage restaurant zoning, identified as C-AB-1 on the agenda.
The Dalton Street and 7122 Florida Boulevard matters also are listed among the regular-agenda items requiring council approval.
Pettit Road mining proposal remains unresolved
The agenda lists MCUP-1-26, a proposed sand-and-gravel mining operation at 7740 and 9400-9500 Pettit Road, on the south and west sides of Pettit Road north of Comite Drive.
The agenda records that the matter was deferred by the Planning Director on May 18 and by the Planning Commission on July 20. It appears under the regular-agenda heading for items requiring council approval, but the agenda does not describe the proposal as approved or denied. Its status remains unresolved.
Which matters need council action?
The Florida Boulevard comprehensive-plan amendment, the related Florida Boulevard rezoning, the Dalton Street rezoning, the 7122 Florida Boulevard zoning request and the Pettit Road mining proposal are listed under the regular agenda for items requiring council approval.
Other Aug. 17 cases are marked as requiring planning approval only. They include a proposed accessory dwelling at 2340 Tulip Street, a flag-lot subdivision at 14987 Port Hudson-Pride Road, residential subdivision proposals at 12707 Port Hudson-Pride Road and 22838 and 22800-22900 Plank Road, and a major residential subdivision at 8150 Hooper Road. The 8150 Hooper Road matter is marked as deferred by the Planning Director to Oct. 19.
Residents who want to comment may attend the public meeting at City Hall and complete a request-to-speak card identifying the agenda item. The agenda says applicants and their representatives speak first for a combined period of up to 15 minutes. Proponents then speak, followed by opponents, with each speaker limited to three minutes. Applicants receive up to five minutes for rebuttal.
Residents near the listed properties can review the official agenda before Aug. 17 to identify the case number and procedural status of each matter. The meeting is the next stated public forum for the Florida Boulevard, Dalton Street and Pettit Road cases.
