Bayside library rule change lowers fines, extends renewals
Bayside WI – North Shore Library’s June 1 rule reset, posted June 5, lowers most overdue fines and gives patrons longer checkout windows.
North Shore Library in Bayside has updated its loan and fine rules, and the changes were already in effect June 1 when the library posted about them June 5. For Bayside-area patrons, the practical result is more borrowing flexibility: lower overdue fines on most main-collection items, longer checkout windows on some materials and more chances to renew many items.
Most items in the main collection now carry a 20-cent-per-day overdue fine. That includes Adult DVDs, Lucky Day DVDs and video games, which had been charged $1 per day. Share Shed items, a separate collection of nontraditional borrowables such as board games and technology, still have a higher $1-per-day overdue fine.
The library also extended some loan periods and expanded renewals. Lucky Day books now check out for three weeks instead of two. Most items can now be renewed twice, including new Adult Fiction and new Non-Fiction books, while DVDs, Blu-rays, video games and magazines can also be renewed twice under the new policy.
A three-day grace period now applies to nearly all materials, with exceptions for Lucky Day books and DVDs, Share Shed items and Explore Passes. For families and regular borrowers in Bayside, that can mean a little more time before overdue fines start adding up.
North Shore Library serves Bayside, Glendale, Fox Point and River Hills from 711 Grace Street in Bayside. Anyone planning a summer checkout should review the updated item types, renewal limits and overdue rules before leaving the library.
