Benbrook closes Castle, Robot Park playgrounds as $2 million rebuild starts
Benbrook TX – Castle Park and Robot Park playgrounds are closed through Sept. 30 for a $2 million rebuild, while Dutch Branch Park and the pavilions stay open.
Benbrook families lost two of the city’s best-known playgrounds on June 1, when construction began on the Castle Park and Robot Park replacement project.
The city says the playgrounds are closed through Sept. 30, 2026. That means the closure is temporary, but it covers both play areas for most of the summer.
City notices also say Dutch Branch Park and the pavilions remain open. For residents, that distinction matters: the playgrounds are off limits, but the rest of the park area is still available for gatherings and other outdoor use.
What the city is paying for
Benbrook’s 2026 capital improvement program lists the project at $2 million as an approved replacement of playground equipment at Castle Park and Robot Park.
The city’s project page says a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant was awarded June 3 to help fund the redevelopment. The page also says the old playgrounds have reached the end of their service life and will be replaced with more accessible equipment.
What to watch next
For parents and caregivers, the immediate takeaway is simple: Castle Park and Robot Park are unavailable for now, so summer outings will need a different stop. Residents should also watch for city updates in case the construction schedule changes before the fall target date.
