ACHD election bill awaits governor

A bill passed at the Statehouse would change how Ada County Highway District commissioners are elected. Under SB 1356, the board would move from district-based nonpartisan races to countywide partisan elections starting in 2028. For Boise residents, that matters because ACHD controls many road, intersection, and right-of-way decisions across the city. The latest state bill-action sheet posted on April 2 showed the measure had reached the governor with an April 8 deadline for action.

Boise Centre land move signals downtown interest

The Greater Boise Auditorium District is moving to acquire about 4.1 acres near 11th and River as it studies a future Boise Centre expansion. Officials authorized about $23.25 million to take over an existing purchase agreement for the property. No final project has been approved, but the land move would give the district a large site near downtown and the river for a future convention or event facility. The step points to continued interest in visitor-driven development and related parking and infrastructure planning.

School enrollment decline stays in focus

Boise School District leaders also spent this week discussing how lower enrollment is affecting long-range facilities planning. At a community forum, district officials and residents tied the shift to housing costs, school choice, and changing neighborhood patterns. A stakeholder task force is expected to prepare a facilities report after the summer, continuing a planning cycle the district last completed in 2016.
