Bokeelia remains tied to Lee County’s hurricane-recovery and resilience work

Lee County’s disaster-recovery planning continues to identify Bokeelia on Pine Island as a community needing emergency communications and recovery infrastructure. The county plan proposes a Greater Pine Island Recovery Center and discusses hurricane-proofing buildings that house critical infrastructure equipment.

The plan does not establish that the recovery center has been funded or built. It also does not provide a Bokeelia-specific project cost or completion date. For residents and businesses, the practical effect will depend on which projects receive funding and when they are delivered.

The Pine Island Fire Control District is continuing its 2026 board-meeting process and lists Bokeelia, Florida, as its location and service context. Separately, the Greater Pine Island Civic Association’s May meeting minutes reported that debris and invasive vegetation removal was underway at Chippewa/Fanhatch Preserve in Bokeelia. The association also said water quality remained an ongoing issue and that its meetings would resume in August.

The next known local steps are the continuation of the fire district’s 2026 board calendar and the civic association’s return to meetings in August. County recovery planning remains the framework for proposed communications, recovery-center and hurricane-resilience investments.
