Brandon drivers: US 301 repaving closes Broadway underpass 24/7 thru July 25
Brandon FL – FDOT’s US 301 repaving keeps the Broadway Avenue underpass closed 24/7 through July 25 and schedules paving lane closures at night, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Brandon-area drivers planning routes around US 301 have two time-based changes to remember: FDOT says the Broadway Avenue underpass is closed 24 hours a day through Friday, July 25, 2026, and lane closures for paving work are scheduled overnight, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
What FDOT says is being repaved on US 301
FDOT’s US 301 repaving project (445920-1-52-01) is repaving from north of Bloomingdale Avenue to south of SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard)—a roughly 6-mile stretch in the Brandon area.
The project’s construction cost is listed as $24 million, with an estimated completion of spring 2027. FDOT lists the start date as Nov. 10, 2025 and names Hubbard Construction Co. as the contractor.
The biggest ongoing impact: Broadway Avenue under US 301 stays closed
FDOT says the Broadway Avenue underpass under US 301 will remain in a continuous 24-hour road closure through Friday, July 25, 2026. If your regular commute route uses that underpass, build extra time and use alternate crossings while the closure remains in effect.
FDOT has also previously posted a temporary detour plan for an earlier phase of Broadway Avenue’s closure under US 301, directing motorists to detour using Orient Road, SR 574 (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard), and Falkenburg Road to access Broadway Avenue.
Overnight lane closures for paving: what FDOT scheduled for this week
FDOT says work requiring lane closures (including paving operations) will occur at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
In its July 5–11, 2026 lane-closure notice, FDOT listed an overnight paving-related lane-closure window on US 301 from Causeway Boulevard to I-75 running Monday, July 6 through Thursday, July 9, with work hours 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
For commuters and parents, the practical takeaway is to expect the most disrupted lanes during late-night/early-morning hours when crews are paving, even though specific nightly windows can change as work shifts from one phase to another.
More than resurfacing: frontage roads and signal work
FDOT’s project scope includes resurfacing US 301 and work on frontage roads, including Robert Tolle Road, Foxworth Road, and Garden Vista Drive.
FDOT also lists other improvements such as a new traffic signal at the Palm River Road intersection, plus sidewalk and minor bridge/drainage/lighting work.
FDOT says access to driveways, sidewalks, and side streets is intended to be maintained, but day-to-day turning movements and the “best route” can still shift during active work zones.
What to do now if you drive through Brandon on US 301
- Plan around the Broadway underpass closure: it’s closed continuously through July 25, 2026.
- Use extra buffer for overnight commutes: paving-related lane closures run 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Check FDOT updates before changing your route: FDOT can re-phase lane closures, including follow-on overnight windows after the July 6–9 period.
- Expect intermittent routing shifts near intersections: frontage-road and signal work can affect how traffic moves during construction.
Because the project is expected to finish in spring 2027, Brandon-area drivers should expect traffic impacts to come in phases rather than as one short disruption.
