Bronzeville Week Continues in Milwaukee With Sunday Festival Along North Avenue

Milwaukee’s 2026 Bronzeville Week opened Saturday, August 1, with the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes. The city-supported celebration continues through Saturday, August 8, with Sunday’s Bronzeville Cultural and Arts Festival scheduled along North Avenue.

Residents, visitors, commuters and nearby businesses should expect concentrated event activity around North Avenue, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, 7th Street and other listed Bronzeville venues. The week’s schedule combines arts, culture, commerce, wellness, family and neighborhood programming.

Sunday festival is scheduled along North Avenue

The Bronzeville Cultural and Arts Festival is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 2, along North Avenue between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and 7th Street.

The official schedule lists vendors, food, three stages of live entertainment, City Big Trucks and the Bronzeville Youth Experience. The schedule identifies the festival location and hours but does not, by itself, establish specific street closures, parking restrictions or transit detours.

An additional Sunday program, Empowerment Sunday, is scheduled as an outdoor service from 10 a.m. to noon at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Avenue. The schedule says the service will feature King Solomon Baptist Church, Ephesians Missionary Baptist Church and Bethel Temple C.O.G.I.C.

From 5 to 7 p.m., America’s Black Holocaust Museum, 401 W. North Avenue, is scheduled to host “Dear Home – An Ode & a Love Letter to Milwaukee.” The official schedule describes it as an immersive experience about memory, migration, longing, return and belonging, featuring photography by Jalayna Muhammad.

Opening day began with the HaRUNbee

The HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run for Healthy Birth Outcomes was scheduled for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Avenue. Registration was listed for 6 a.m., with the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 1.

The City of Milwaukee says the event, organized by the National Coalition for Healthy Black Families, is intended to raise awareness about unhealthy birth outcomes and encourage physical and mental wellness.

Saturday evening’s schedule also included the Royal Rhythm Experience from 5 to 9 p.m. at Summer of 85, 2213 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The event was listed as a live music, culture and community program, with a fee potentially applying.

Bronzeville Week extends beyond Sunday

The official schedule identifies the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District as bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to 7th Street. Activities during the week are scheduled at businesses, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, parks, galleries and other neighborhood locations.

Later programming includes a development panel, a business breakfast, housing and neighborhood resources, a family paint session, National Night Out activities, trolley rides, a fashion show, a Bronzeville Sleepover for Education and the Together We Dream Bronzeville Art Walk.

Most events are listed as free and open to the public, but some require advance registration, have limited seating or may charge a fee. The schedule also includes virtual events or virtual participation options. Organizers warn that details may change, so attendees should verify times and participation requirements before leaving home.

For residents and commuters, the key Sunday locations are the North Avenue festival corridor, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and North Avenue intersection, and America’s Black Holocaust Museum at 401 W.
