Broward College’s Coconut Creek Campus Gets $4 Million for Health Science, Nursing, AI and IT Facility

Florida’s enacted 2026-27 budget provides $4 million for a Broward College project at the North Campus in Coconut Creek, adding state funding to a planned redevelopment of Buildings 56 and 57.

The project is intended to create a larger Health Science, Nursing, AI and IT facility at Broward College’s North Campus, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd. Broward College President Torey Alston identified the additional appropriation in the college’s June 2026 president’s message.

What the project includes

College capital-planning records put the overall project at about $38.4 million. The plan identifies $15 million in prior state PECO funding, $8 million in local funds and $15,404,437 in additional requested or projected funding. The November 6, 2025 Florida Senate funding request separately sought $7,702,218 for the 2026-27 fiscal year; the enacted budget later provided $4 million.

The planned work calls for Building 56 to be demolished and replaced because of aging infrastructure and high maintenance costs. Building 57, built in 1988, is planned for a major renovation to update science laboratories, classrooms and building systems.

The project request describes about 25,000 additional square feet, along with updated classrooms, science laboratories, nursing laboratories and information-technology space. College planning records also describe new or improved facilities for STEM and health-science instruction.

Academic expansion remains prospective

Broward College’s funding request says the project could support four additional associate degree programs, one bachelor’s degree program and seven certificate programs. The college estimated that the expansion could produce 140 additional degrees annually beginning in fall 2027.

Those figures are projections, not confirmed enrollment or graduation results. The proposed programs and projected degrees should not be treated as guaranteed until the college confirms approvals, launch dates and student participation.

Construction schedule needs an update

The Florida Senate request, dated November 6, 2025, listed an estimated construction start of March 1, 2026, and an estimated completion date of August 1, 2027. It described the project as permitted and ready for construction-related funding, but those entries were estimates in a funding request.

The public records reviewed for this article do not independently establish that construction began on March 1, 2026, or that the project remains on track for August 1, 2027. The enacted appropriation also does not by itself show that the money has been received or spent.

The next accountability questions are whether state funds have been received, how much has been spent, whether contracts have been awarded, whether the final scope remains unchanged and whether the projected completion date is still realistic.

Not a city project

The investment is a state-funded Broward College capital project located in Coconut Creek. It is not a City of Coconut Creek construction project, although the campus location makes it relevant to local students, families, workers and employers.

For residents, the immediate change is the enacted $4 million allocation. The longer-term benefit—expanded access to health-care, nursing, science and technology education—depends on construction, procurement, final project decisions and the college’s ability to deliver the proposed programs.
