Burien City Council selects Patricia Hudson to fill vacant Position 2 seat
Patricia Hudson was selected July 27 to fill Burien City Council Position 2, the seat left vacant after Linda Akeyโs resignation on May 18, 2026.
The selection came during the Burien City Councilโs regular meeting after councilmembers interviewed five candidates. The cityโs meeting record confirms the July 27 regular meeting, and local reporting identified Hudson as the candidate selected to fill the seat.
Five candidates were interviewed
The candidates interviewed were:
- Patricia Hudson
- Jacques Colon
- Jessica Ivey
- Krystal Marx
- Torrance Dixon
Hudsonโs selection was an appointment to a vacant council position, not a new election. The action fills the vacancy created by Akeyโs resignation, although the official city council directory had not yet been updated to list Hudson when reviewed.
Vacancy followed Linda Akeyโs resignation
Akey officially announced her resignation from the Burien City Council, effective immediately, on May 18, 2026. She had been elected to Position 2 in November 2023 and served on the council beginning in 2024.
The city said Position 2 was vacant as of May 19, beginning the recruitment and appointment process that led to the July 27 selection.
Why the seat matters
Burienโs City Council is the cityโs governing body. The city says its seven elected councilmembers establish city policies and laws, adopt the annual budget, approve appropriations, contract for services and grant franchises.
Filling Position 2 gives the city a selected successor for the seat and allows Hudson to participate in future council business once the appointment is formally completed. The selection itself does not establish a new policy, authorize specific spending or change an existing city program.
What to watch next
Residents, businesses and neighborhood groups can watch upcoming Burien council meetings and city records for the formal seating of Hudson and her participation in future policy, budget, appropriations, contract and franchise decisions. The records reviewed for this article do not establish a swearing-in date or final vote tally.
