Burnsville Police City Hall project remains on track for September phase one
Burnsville’s $100 million Police City Hall project remains on schedule, with the first phase expected to be completed in September 2026, the city reported July 9.
The work is taking place at City Hall and the civic campus at 100 Civic Center Parkway. Construction is still underway, so the September milestone applies to the City Hall expansion rather than the entire project.
The broader effort is planned in three phases and is expected to be completed in February 2028. It includes 31 separate construction contracts and has a total project budget of $100 million, according to materials presented to the Burnsville City Council on May 19, 2026.
Construction underway at the civic campus
Recent work has included a range of interior finishes. Crews have been working on ceilings, cabinets, countertops, tile, lighting, plumbing fixtures, wall panels and terrazzo flooring.
Exterior work has included window installation, retaining walls, grading and construction of a boardwalk. The first phase also includes a patio and parking lot, extending the construction beyond the building interior and into the surrounding civic campus.
The city’s July update said the work was progressing as scheduled. It did not identify a revised completion date or a schedule delay.
What phase one will add
Phase one is the City Hall expansion. Planned facilities include a new City Council chamber, three community rooms, training and meeting spaces, a fitness area, storage and a breakroom.
Those additions are intended to expand the space available for city government, meetings, training and community use. The new council chamber and community rooms will be part of the city’s expanded civic facilities once the phase is complete.
The July update did not announce a specific public opening date for the phase-one facilities. The construction target remains September 2026.
Police additions are scheduled next
Phase two is scheduled to begin in fall 2026 and continue through fall 2027. That phase is focused on additions for the Burnsville Police Department.
Planned police facilities include expanded and remodeled administrative and meeting space, enhanced training areas, an indoor rifle range and indoor parking for squad cars. The work is scheduled to follow the first phase, but the project timeline does not indicate that police operations have already moved into those additions.
A third phase is planned as an interior remodel of administrative space. Together, the phases make up a construction effort that city materials describe as lasting about three years.
Why the timeline matters
The project will change both the public-facing and operational areas of Burnsville’s civic campus. The first phase is centered on council, community and meeting facilities, while the later police addition is designed to provide more administrative, training, firearms and vehicle-storage space for the Police Department.
For residents, the next scheduled milestone is the expected completion of the City Hall expansion in September 2026. Construction will continue after that point, with police-related work planned from fall 2026 through fall 2027 and the overall project expected to remain active until February 2028.
