River Hills Drive closes as Burnsville watermain work begins
Watermain replacement work begins Tuesday, August 4, on River Hills Drive in Burnsville, closing the street to through traffic while crews work along the roadway.
The River Hills project is scheduled to continue through September 2026. The city says construction schedules are subject to field conditions and will be updated as crews move along the street.
Detours for through traffic
Drivers who normally use River Hills Drive should follow the posted detour through 19th Avenue, Tamarack Lane and 114th Street East.
Residents north of River Hills Drive should use 19th Avenue, Woods Lane, Schoolcraft Road, Radisson Drive and Carver Court to reach their homes.
Residents will retain property access
The closure does not mean residents on the affected section will be cut off from their properties. The city says access will remain available, although drivers may face short waits while crews make room for them to pass.
Access within the work zone will change as installation advances. Before crews reach a property, residents will approach from the east. After the new pipe is installed in front of the property, access will shift to the west.
Residents should watch for project updates and follow directions posted near the active work area.
Water shutdown planned for August 4
Burnsville has scheduled a water shutdown from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday so crews can connect the replacement main to the existing water system.
The shutdown will affect some homes outside the River Hills Drive project area. The city says a separate notice identified the full shutdown area; the public project page does not list that boundary.
Residents affected by the shutdown should plan for the eight-hour service interruption and follow any instructions provided in their notice.
River Hills timeline differs from broader program deadline
The city lists the River Hills Drive work as running through September 2026. That is a project-level milestone, separate from the broader 2026 street-improvement program, which has a final-completion target in spring 2027.
The River Hills project includes roadway improvements, replacement of aging watermain infrastructure, storm-sewer improvements and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements.
Through drivers should avoid River Hills Drive during construction and use the posted detour. Residents should expect changing approach routes and possible short waits at their properties as crews move from one section of the street to the next.
