Frostbite 500 hits Champlin Trout Pond

The Frostbite 500 trout ice fishing contest took over the Champlin Trout Pond off French Lake Road this morning, running from 8 to 11 a.m. The event featured predrilled holes, prizes for the biggest trout, and a long list of raffle giveaways to keep things lively on the ice. Up to 500 anglers were able to register, with different prices for residents and nonresidents.

Organizers emphasized making the tournament family‑friendly, welcoming participants of all ages as long as state fishing rules were followed. With solid ice conditions and a mid‑winter weekend date, the contest continues to anchor Champlin’s seasonal events calendar.

Expedition Yeti continues in city parks

For those who prefer exploring to fishing, the city’s Expedition Yeti scavenger hunt is underway through February 26. Families are encouraged to visit a featured Champlin park each week, search for Yeti signs, and use letters they find to solve a riddle. The activity is free and meant to get residents outside even on colder days.

The city is also inviting people to share park memories and photos as part of its “Champlin is our place to live” storytelling effort, highlighting everyday moments in local green spaces.

City Council back in session Monday

Attention is already turning to City Hall, where a council worksession and regular meeting are scheduled for Monday evening. The sessions are set to be held in the council chambers at City Hall, with options to watch proceedings on local cable or online.

Residents can review agendas, minutes, and supporting documents through the city’s online meeting portal, which allows people to search past actions and subscribe for updates on specific boards or commissions. It is part of a broader push to keep decision‑making accessible and transparent.

Ward 3 special election on the horizon

Looking further ahead, Champlin is preparing for a May 12 special election to fill the Ward 3 council seat for the remainder of the current term. A vacancy last fall led the council to appoint a member to serve in the short term, with the upcoming vote set to determine representation through the end of 2028.
