Channahon offers residents up to two free replacement parkway trees after removals

The Village of Channahon has announced a Parkway Tree Program offering residents up to two replacement parkway trees per property at no cost. The program is intended to address tree removals linked to Emerald Ash Borer infestations and storm damage throughout the village.

The village announced the program July 21, 2026. It is open to all Channahon residents on a first-come, first-served basis. That means residents may request trees, but distribution will depend on when requests are made and whether trees remain available.

How the program works

Residents may request as many as two trees for each property, provided there is enough suitable parkway space. The program applies to replacement parkway trees, placing the focus on trees associated with the village’s public streetscape.

Applicants can identify their top three preferred species from the village’s approved list. The Village of Channahon makes the final species selections, so a resident’s preferred choice is a request rather than a guarantee of the tree ultimately provided.

Properties governed by a homeowners association may have additional restrictions. Residents on those properties may need to comply with association requirements along with the village’s conditions for the program.

Restoring the tree canopy

The village says the program is meant to restore and enhance Channahon’s tree canopy after parkway-tree removals caused by Emerald Ash Borer infestations and storms. The no-cost replacement program gives residents a way to restore street-tree coverage without paying for the trees themselves.
