Cincinnati Daily: Bridge Work, Police Oversight, Housing and Jobs
Cincinnati, OH – April 4, 2026 – Bridge demolition, police oversight, housing growth and a bakery closure shaped the region’s public agenda this week.
Infrastructure and access
The biggest near-term traffic change is at Linn Street, where the bridge between Downtown and Queensgate is already closed ahead of demolition and replacement work. Drivers should plan for full northbound I-75 closures the weekend of April 10 and southbound closures the weekend of April 17. The replacement is a $46.7 million project tied to the broader Brent Spence corridor overhaul and is expected to add bike lanes and sidewalks along with a slimmer roadway.
Police oversight at City Hall
City Hall is also still working through the fallout from the independent review of Police Chief Teresa Theetge. The report was commissioned by the city solicitor and described leadership and communication problems inside the department. When council members were asked to comment publicly, only one agreed to do so, leaving the city manager and solicitor under pressure to explain what comes next.
Housing and growth
North of the city, the first tenants have moved into Relay 129 in Liberty Township. The apartment project is planned for 402 units and sits within a Costco-anchored development, making it one of the larger recent additions to the regional rental pipeline. The opening does not solve Cincinnati’s housing pressures, but it does show where new supply is arriving across the metro.
Workforce watch
Another regional development cuts the other direction. Panera plans to close its fresh dough facility in West Chester Township on May 22 after filing a WARN notice with the state, a move expected to eliminate 70 jobs. Company officials tied the decision to a new bakery supply model, underscoring how workforce changes can arrive quickly even as new housing and infrastructure projects move forward.
For Cincinnati this week, the pattern is clear: major transportation work, questions about government accountability, continuing apartment construction and selective job losses are shaping the local agenda at the same time.
