City crews wrapped up a significant cleanup effort this week at a city-owned lot near truck stops in northwest Laramie. Officials say more than six tons of trash were removed, improving both safety and appearance in the area.

The work was part of a broader push to address long-standing problem spots and reduce illegal dumping. City staff noted that follow-up monitoring is planned to help keep the site clear.

State budget decision protects local research and tourism programs

On the state level, lawmakers voted Thursday to spare several University of Wyoming-affiliated programs from deep funding cuts. The decision protects the WORTH Institute, which supports tourism initiatives, along with a program at the High Bay Research Center tied to energy technology.

The move comes as part of ongoing budget negotiations, with a final version expected later this spring. For Laramie, the vote helps preserve jobs and research activity tied closely to the local economy.

Downtown intersection closure begins Monday

Drivers should prepare for a temporary closure at the intersection of 13th Street and Steele Avenue starting Monday, February 9. The closure is tied to a manhole replacement project and is expected to last through Thursday.

City officials say detours and signage will be in place and are urging motorists to slow down and watch for workers in the area.

City Council work session scheduled for Tuesday

The Laramie City Council will hold a work session on Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at City Hall and will also be available to watch online and on local cable.
