Cleveland Daily Local Headlines: Stadium plans, Burke survey, and a school-choice deadline
Cleveland, OH – February 27, 2026 – Browns dome plans advance in Brook Park; Burke lakefront survey opens; CMSD choice deadline hits 5 p.m. today.
Stadium district plans move forward in Brook Park
A major new batch of planning documents is out for the proposed domed stadium and mixed-use district in Brook Park, envisioned as the Cleveland Browns’ future home. City leaders released a preliminary development plan covering the broader 176-acre site, including concepts for housing, hotels, retail, parks and walkable public space—plus the traffic and infrastructure questions that come with game-day crowds.
Officials also signaled they’re pursuing outside infrastructure dollars to help pay for roads and related upgrades tied to the project. The proposal is still in the planning phase, but the release gives residents a clearer look at how the district could be laid out and what a day-to-day (not just football) site might look like.
Burke lakefront future: public survey opens
City planners opened a new public survey this week to gather ideas for how the Burke Lakefront Airport footprint could be used if the airport is eventually decommissioned. The lakefront acreage is often described as some of the region’s most valuable real estate, and the survey is aimed at collecting community priorities before any final direction is set.
Closing or repurposing the airport is not a done deal. Any major move would still require City Council action and federal approvals, so this is an early step—but one that signals the debate is actively moving ahead.
CMSD school choice deadline hits at 5 p.m.
Families in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District who need to make a selection for the 2026–27 school year are facing a firm deadline: the district’s choice portal closes at 5 p.m. today. The selection window affects several groups, including students moving from preschool to kindergarten, eighth graders heading to high school, and families impacted by the district’s consolidation plan.
The district says completing choices helps with placement and staffing decisions, and in-person help has been offered for families trying to finalize plans before the cutoff.
