On Saturday, January 31, 2026, the Clovis Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at an undisclosed location within the city. The initiative aimed to identify and remove impaired drivers from the roads, enhancing public safety. First-time DUI offenders face significant fines and license suspension. The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Arrests Made After Shooting and Pursuit

On Thursday, January 29, 2026, Clovis police arrested Joshua Pleasant, 19, of Fresno, and a 17-year-old juvenile following a reported shooting and a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash. Officers responded to a disturbance involving gunshots in the area of Shepherd and Sunnyside avenues. The suspect vehicle was located, and a pursuit ensued, culminating in a collision at Willow and Nees avenues. No injuries were reported from the shooting, though one individual from an uninvolved vehicle was treated for minor injuries. During the search, two loaded handguns were recovered, one of which had been reported stolen. Pleasant was booked into Fresno County Jail on multiple felony charges, including assault with a firearm and evading police. The juvenile was booked into Fresno County’s Juvenile Justice Center on charges related to carrying a concealed loaded firearm.
