Suspect Arrested in Shoplifting-Related Shooting
Colorado Springs, CO — February 1, 2026 — A suspect was arrested after firing a gun at a victim during a shoplifting incident in Colorado Springs. The incident occurred on December 17, 2025, when a man and woman were caught shoplifting from a business on the 2800 block of North Powers Boulevard. After being confronted by a victim in the parking lot, the male suspect fired a handgun at the victim before fleeing the scene. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) launched an investigation, and on January 27, 2026, 44-year-old Anthony Lopez was arrested near North Circle Drive and East Platte Avenue. During a search of Lopez’s vehicle, police found a handgun with an illegal extended magazine. Lopez, a previously convicted felon, was on bond for felony explosives-related charges at the time of his arrest. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
