Columbus Daily Local Briefing
Columbus, OH – February 22, 2026 – New Aviators uniforms, dense fog school delays, and summer’s NWSL Challenge Cup plans top the latest local headlines.
Columbus Aviators debut inaugural uniforms
Columbus’ new United Football League franchise, the Aviators, is stepping into the spotlight with its first-ever uniform set. The team unveiled home navy and road white looks designed to honor Ohio’s air and space heritage, with blue helmets meant to evoke open skies and speed. The rollout is one of the city’s bigger sports stories of the week as the club prepares for its debut season this spring at Historic Crew Stadium.
The uniforms will be on the field for the first time in late March, when the Aviators open on the road, followed by a home opener in early April. The reveal has generated plenty of online chatter from local fans, many of whom say the design fits well alongside other Columbus teams while giving the city a distinct identity in the new league.
Dense fog slows down central Ohio schools
After a stretch of mild but damp weather, dense morning fog across central Ohio led several nearby school districts to delay the start of classes on February 19. The National Weather Service warned of visibility dropping below a quarter mile in spots, especially around major highway interchanges on the west side of the metro area.
The fog cleared by mid to late morning, but the delays were a reminder that even in a warmer pattern, commuters and school buses can still face tricky travel. Drivers were urged to use low-beam headlights, leave extra space on the roads, and expect sudden changes in visibility as patches of thicker fog rolled through.
Columbus to host NWSL Challenge Cup in June
Looking ahead to summer, Columbus continues to raise its profile as a soccer city. The National Women’s Soccer League has slated its 2026 Challenge Cup match for Scotts Miracle-Gro Field, home of the Columbus Crew. The one-off final is scheduled for June 26 and will feature Gotham FC against the Kansas City Current.
The event will mark the first time the league has played in Columbus and is expected to draw national attention along with fans from around the region. For local supporters, it adds another marquee date to an already busy soccer calendar and underscores the city’s growing reputation as a host for top-tier professional events.
