Conway Ward 2 special-election candidates begin filing for November ballot

Filing is underway for Conway’s Ward 2, Position 1 special election, with prospective candidates required to submit petitions by noon Wednesday, August 5.

The election is scheduled for November 3, 2026, to fill the Conway City Council vacancy. The Conway City Council authorized the election in a resolution approved July 2.

Filing window closes August 5

The resolution sets the candidate-filing period from noon July 29 through noon August 5. Official petitions for municipal candidates must be filed with the Faulkner County Clerk’s Office during that period.

That filing process is separate from the Conway City Council’s action calling the election. Prospective candidates should direct their petitions to the county clerk’s office rather than City Hall.

The resolution also says the ballot-position drawing must occur on or before August 24, 2026, at the place and time designated by the Faulkner County Election Commission.

Election follows Ward 2 vacancy

The special election concerns the Ward 2, Position 1 seat. The city’s July 2 resolution says a vacancy occurred and calls an election to fill it.

TriArk Radio reported that Drew Spurgers vacated the seat after saying he planned to move out of town. The report said the council voted 7-0 to allow Spurgers to remain in the position until the November election.

The November election has not occurred, and no winner has been determined. The city resolution establishes the election schedule but does not identify a completed candidate field.

What Conway voters should know

Ward 2 voters will choose a council member in the November 3 special election. The immediate filing deadline is noon Wednesday, August 5, and the ballot-position drawing is scheduled to occur no later than August 24.

The city’s action remains the authorization of a scheduled special election—not a completed contest.
