Springdale sets Nov. 3 election for vacant Ward 2 seat

Springdale will hold a special election Nov. 3, 2026, to fill the vacant Ward 2, Position 2 seat, giving residents a set date to choose who will serve the remainder of the term.

The City Council approved a resolution calling the election after the seat became vacant June 9. Aaron Huntley stepped down with approximately two and a half years remaining in his term.

Filing and ballot deadlines

Candidate filing is scheduled to open at noon July 29 and close at noon Aug. 5. Petitions must be filed with the Washington County Clerk’s Office.

A ballot-position drawing is scheduled for Aug. 21. The Washington County Election Commission will designate the place and time for that drawing.

The resolution establishes the election schedule but does not determine which candidates will appear on the November ballot.

How the vacancy will be handled

The interim process for the vacant seat is separate from the November election. The November vote will determine who serves the remaining term, rather than simply confirming a temporary arrangement.

Mayor Doug Sprouse said the council needed a full membership to handle city business in a timely way, according to reporting by KNWA/KFTA. The council chose a November special election instead of filling the remainder of the term through a long-term appointment.

The action moves the Ward 2 vacancy into a defined public election process. The next scheduled milestones are the July 29 opening of candidate filing, the Aug. 5 filing deadline and the Aug. 21 ballot-position drawing before the Nov. 3 election.
