The facility is now envisioned as a much larger complex that would support competitive swimming, training, and academic programs tied to sports management and hospitality. Supporters say it could draw visitors year-round and boost local economic activity, while critics continue to question the long-term financial risk.

County legislators still need to approve financing details, but construction is currently expected to begin next year if funding is finalized.

Midweek Power Outage Resolved

Thousands of residents in Schenectady and nearby Rotterdam experienced a sudden power outage earlier this week. The disruption began mid-morning and affected homes, businesses, and traffic signals.

Utility crews were able to restore service within a few hours, and power was fully back before midday. No injuries were reported, and officials said the outage did not cause lasting damage to local infrastructure.
