Croton says Old Post Road North gas-main work will run into August
Con Edison’s Old Post Road North gas-main job was supposed to take about eight weeks, but the village now says it should continue into August before crews move to Brook Street. ([crotononhudson-ny.gov](https://www.crotononhudson-ny.gov/home/news/con-edison-gas-main-project-old-post-road-north))
Con Edison’s gas-main work on Old Post Road North is still affecting traffic and access in Croton-on-Hudson. The village’s April 17 notice said the project between Prospect Place and Van Wyck Street would begin April 20 and take about eight weeks, but at the July 1 Board of Trustees meeting Village Manager Bryan Healy said the work is expected to continue into August before shifting to Brook Street.
Neighbors say the disruption has been more than a routine utility job. During public comment, Brook Street resident Christian Meyer described sleepless nights, driveway access problems, idling trucks, and materials left near a historic stone wall. The village notice also warned that temporary lane closures could be needed during excavation and pipe installation.
The enforcement issue came up too. Healy said Con Edison did not notify the village, the school district, or emergency services before starting work on a separate Old Post Road South pole-replacement project, which he said violated the permit and would lead the village to seek penalties.
For nearby residents, the key thing to watch is whether the work really leaves Old Post Road North after August and how quickly it moves through the next phase on Brook Street.
