Denver Daily Local Headlines: Data Center Pause, Street Changes, RTD Meetings

Denver, CO – February 23, 2026 – Denver moves to pause new data centers, East Colfax streets go two-way, RTD hosts service-change meetings today.

Top story: Denver hits pause on new data centers

City leaders say they plan to file a temporary moratorium on new data center projects while Denver reviews rules around land use, energy demand, and water use. The pause is expected to last several months and is aimed at setting clearer guardrails before the next wave of proposals arrives.

Existing facilities and projects already permitted or under construction would not be stopped. City officials said one large project is currently permitted and underway in the Elyria Swansea area near the National Western complex, with additional phases not yet permitted. A community meeting about that project is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.

Transportation updates

East Colfax side streets shift from one way to two way

Drivers in the East Colfax area should watch for new traffic patterns as 13th and 14th avenues convert from one way to two way between Quebec Street and Yosemite Street. The change is meant to slow traffic and better match neighborhood conditions, with the speed limit in that stretch dropping to 25 mph.

Transportation officials say the corridor has seen speeding and serious crash concerns, and that follow up work tied to the city bond program is expected to study other segments later.

RTD starts public feedback sessions on June service changes

RTD is collecting public feedback on proposed service changes for June. The agency is holding virtual meetings on Monday, February 23, including a noon session to review proposals and a 5:30 p.m. ask a service planner event, plus another review meeting at noon on Tuesday, February 24.

An online dashboard for comments remains open through Thursday, March 4. RTD says the proposals focus on reliability, on time performance, seasonal adjustments, and steps tied to longer term system planning. If approved, changes would take effect Sunday, June 7.
