Denver Daily Local Headlines: Measles Exposure Alert, Wind-Driven Flight Disruptions, and Police Policy Shifts
Denver, CO – February 25, 2026 – Measles exposure alert at DIA, wind-driven travel snags, and new moves on police tech and masks, plus fire weather.
Measles exposure alert tied to DIA and a Littleton church
State health officials said a traveler with a confirmed measles case visited Denver International Airport and a Littleton church while infectious. The public exposure windows include DIA on Saturday, Feb. 21 (roughly mid-morning through noon) and late Sunday night into early Monday, plus St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Littleton on Sunday, Feb. 22.
Officials urged anyone who may have been in those locations during the listed times to watch for symptoms for 21 days after exposure and to call ahead before seeking care if symptoms develop. Free vaccination opportunities were also announced for Wednesday, Feb. 25.
High winds disrupt flights as fire danger spikes
Strong winds along the Front Range prompted a temporary ground stop at DIA on Tuesday, with the FAA warning of arrival delays and grounded departures during the late-morning period. The wind event also lined up with very dry air and critical fire conditions, with a Red Flag Warning in the Denver area and gusts forecast to be strong enough to rapidly spread any new fire starts.
For travelers, the practical takeaway was simple: double-check airline and airport alerts before heading out, and build extra time for rebooking and ground transportation.
City moves to replace license plate reader vendor
Denver officials said the city will not renew its contract with the company operating the police department’s automated license plate reader system. The city plans to shift operations to a new vendor already used for body cameras and data storage, with policy changes aimed at limiting how long data is kept and restricting how it can be shared.
The transition is expected to begin with a one-year contract, ahead of the current agreement’s expiration at the end of March.
Council advances proposal limiting police face coverings
The Denver City Council advanced a bill that would bar officers from wearing face coverings while operating in the city, with exemptions for undercover work and certain tactical situations. The proposal has drawn pushback from federal officials, setting up a potential city-federal conflict if it becomes law. A final council vote is scheduled for March 2.
