Easton hydrant sprinkler hours (July 1–4) ended—drought watch water tips
Easton PA – City hydrant sprinklers ran July 1–4, noon–6 p.m. Easton Suburban Water Authority also urges residents to voluntarily cut water use at least 5%.
Easton residents got a short, summer-focused option for beating the heat last week: the City scheduled fire hydrants with sprinklers to be opened in a limited daytime window.
Hydrant sprinklers: the scheduled July 1–4 window has passed
The City of Easton said it would help residents cool down during the July heat by opening fire hydrants with sprinklers at locations listed in the City’s graphic. The scheduled window ran Wednesday, July 1 through Saturday, July 4, each day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
That hydrant-sprinkler access period is now over, but the City’s drought-and-heat messaging is still relevant as summer conditions continue.
Northampton County drought watch: voluntary 5% cut and easy steps
At the same time, Easton Suburban Water Authority posted a Drought Watch message for Northampton County. Even with supplies described as stable, the utility asked customers to voluntarily reduce water use by at least 5% and provided practical steps residents can take right away, including:
- Shortening showers
- Delaying car washing
- Repairing leaks
- Reducing outdoor watering
What Pennsylvania DEP says about drought status (Watch vs. emergency)
Pennsylvania DEP’s drought information page lists Northampton County as being in Drought Watch. DEP also explains that drought watch and drought warning are informational declarations, while drought emergency declarations are the ones with mandatory conservation requirements (approved through additional steps, including final approval by the Governor).
DEP adds that localized conditions can vary, and residents should follow guidance from their local water supplier—especially if conservation measures are requested while dry conditions persist.
What to do now
Since the City’s July 1–4 hydrant-sprinkler window has already ended, the continuing takeaway is the water-conservation request connected to the drought watch. If it’s hot and dry where you live, the quickest impact is usually the same items Easton Suburban Water Authority highlighted: fix leaks, cut back on outdoor watering, and reduce shower and washing time.
